24 Hours is coming out in paperback!
Plus, your last chance to sign up for the February cohort of my new online writing class, the Longform Lab.
Hello friends!
When I started on my publishing journey a few years ago, I had no idea that often the decision to print a paperback edition of a book is a complicated decision, and far from a given. The publisher asks questions like: Did the hardback sell enough? Is there enough interest to sustain more sales of a new edition? In short: is the book popular enough to get a paperback release?
I didn’t know how unique it was, when Muhammad Najem, War Reporter came out, that it was released in both hardcover and paperback at the same time!
I’ve been learning all of this because I just found out that 24 Hours in Charlottesville will be released in paperback this July!! Even crazier, we’ve sold almost all of the hardback books that were printed in the first run. It could even go out of stock, soon. Now, we’re working on making sure the text is perfect (if you found any typos let me know lol) and we have all the nicest reviews on the cover (including the New Yorker!).
I think all of this is a testament to the powerful stories of those activists and counterprotestors in Charlottesville during the summer of 2017, who stood up against forces of hate and evil, with very few institutions standing behind them in support. I’m so grateful that this story is spreading farther and wider through this book.
The paperback isn’t available for pre-order yet, but I’ll definitely let you know. In the meantime, you may want to pick up a few last hardback copies of the book while it’s in stock! (Or a copy of Muhammad Najem, War Reporter in either hardback or paperback.)
In other news, I have been so overwhelmed by the response to my new online writing course, the Longform Lab! There really isn’t a writing course out there that focuses on storytelling fundamentals across genres— including books, documentaries, podcasts, and more— and provides one-on-one support and accountability. As I mentioned last time, previous students have finished entire podcast series and a full section of a personal essay collection.
Are you ready to finally finish your story? I want to help you get there.
There are still spots available in the February 5th cohort of the Longform Lab. I’m so grateful to you newsletter subscribers for sticking with me on this journey, so I’d like to offer a big one-time discount of $100 off, bringing the total tuition down to $290. You still need to apply through the website, but when it comes time to pay you can use the code NEWSLETTER100 to apply that discount. (It’ll be good thru Tuesday, Feb 6, just to give you a little extra time.)
But again, you don’t have to take my word for it. You all know one of my pilot round students very, very well: Muhammad Najem, himself! Here he is, all grown up, to share what he took away from the class:
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in (or know another writer who might be!), click here:
If you’re interested but now just isn’t the right time, that’s totally fine too. I’ll be enrolling for another cohort in March!
Thank you again for supporting my work and these important stories in the world.
Stay warm and dry,
Nora
