Want to learn how to freelance?
Plus, my new Teen Vogue article and an update on our Cville mutual aid fund.
Hi friends!
Over the summer, I hosted a live Zoom webinar for folks (of any ability!) to learn how to start freelance writing. I didn’t really know what to expect— if anyone would show up, if I’d be able to answer all their questions— but it was honestly phenomenal. We had a small group of about ten folks who brought their questions and their interest, and I walked them through step-by-step process of going from “huh, I have an idea for an article” to a published, paid story in a major publication.
So, I’m going to do it again! Join me next Wednesday, October 4 at 8p ET/ 5p PT for a one-hour live Zoom workshop. It’s totally confidential and not recorded, so if you’re toying with the idea of freelancing but don’t want your boss to know, all good.
I set the same ticket price as last time ($100), but as always, don’t want money to be the reason someone isn’t able to join us. So use the code HALFOFF for 50% off, no questions asked, if you need to. And if that’s still not doable, email me and we’ll figure something out.
You don’t have to take my word for it, though. Here’s two lovely reviews from past participants:
“Nora's workshop was informal and very helpful, touching on how to maximize the advantages that you already have, brainstorm topics, approach editors, structure a pitch, sell yourself, handle money, and stay in the game. I especially liked her positive can-do attitude, willingness to share tips, and relaxed and helpful Q&A. She's a natural teacher as well as an excellent writer.”
“Nora's How to Start Freelancing workshop was impressive. She was organized, clear, and gave practical advice on how to elevate your pitching, writing, and publishing game. She sprinkled in activities to get us thinking about what we could write about. She shared tools to help us find pitch calls and draft pieces. Her honesty, transparency, and specificity were empowering and engaging for the audience. It was apparent that she wanted all of us to succeed as freelancers or side hustlers. Many thanks!”
You do need to sign up in advance to receive the Zoom information, which you can do here.
Thanks for considering, and invite a friend!
This summer, I also had the honor of getting to know an amazing young woman, Veronica Takenaka. She’s a trans teenager in Utah who is fueling her anger over anti-trans laws into activism and has already made a serious difference in her community. I wrote a story for Teen Vogue about Veronica, which you can check out here.
Finally, thank you to everyone who donated to the 24 Hours in Charlottesville Mutual Aid Fund! This round raised $390 from nine individual donations, and each one means so much to not only me, but the survivors who benefitted. I’ve distributed all the money, and in the words of one survivor, every little bit seriously counts, I’m strapped!
If you still want to contribute, you can do so by sending money directly to me. I’ll then re-distribute the cash directly to the people in need, bypassing the need for third parties.

Thank you so much for your continued support for my writing. It truly means so much. I can’t believe this is actually my job, after dreaming about it for my whole life. Thank you.
